Outbound Exchange Opportunities

Spend one or two semesters abroad on exchange

Did you know you can spend an entire semester (or two) abroad? Depending on your program, we offer opportunities to complete an exchange in countries like Denmark, Japan and more. The longer duration of exchanges allows you to immerse yourself in the culture you are visiting. You will not only learn your course curriculum - you will also get a truly international education!

An exchange with one of our partner schools gives you the opportunity to take credits abroad, explore new cultures, learn new ways of doing, and expand your personal and professional network.

While on exchange, you will pay tuition to George Brown but enjoy the benefits of the partner school. Academic credits are transferable from the school abroad back to George Brown upon the successful completion of the program.

  • Eligibility: outbound exchange students are required to have a 3.0 GPA.
  • Attend a Global Learning Info Session to learn more.
  • Review the application deadlines
    • January 31st, 2024 for the following Fall semester
    • April 30th, 2025 for the following Winter semester
  • Note that all credits taken while on exchange will be pre-approved by your program coordinator.
  • Connect with the Global Team – globalmobility@georgebrown.ca

Once you’ve been selected, there are several steps required to help prepare you for your exchange:

  • Confirm your acceptance (March 1st for the fall semester, June 1st for the winter semester)
  • Check visa requirements with Embassy or Consulate at least 3 months in advance.
  • Complete the host exchange application as outlined by the exchange partner.
  • Review Risk Management & Safe Travel Procedures
  • Apply for travel grants and scholarships.
  • Transfer Your Credits: Once you have returned from your exchange, meet with your Program Coordinator to transfer your exchange credits back to GBC.
  • Become a Global Learning Ambassador: Are you interested in sharing your study abroad experience with other prospective students? If you are interested in becoming a Global Learning Ambassador email globalmobility@georgebrown.ca
  • Complete Post Study Abroad Survey: All students returning from a study abroad placement will be asked to complete a Post Study Abroad Survey to help us improve our support and services.
